AcceleratingFuture.com was created in Summer 2003,
to open dialogue on futurist issues ranging from nanotechnology to Artificial
Intelligence and the Singularity. We observe that technological change
is accelerating, and is likely to make the technological creation of
transhuman intelligence possible sometime in the next few decades, which
could rapidly redefine our civilization.
AcceleratingFuture was originally conceived by Michael Anissimov, but
quickly expanded into a larger project including Mitch Howe, Timothy
Moenk, Jason Abu-Aitah, Tyrone Pow, and Nick Hay. Our mission is to
reinforce existing ties to our sibling and umbrella groups, the World
Transhumanist Association, World Futurist Society, Foresight Institute,
Extropy Institute, Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, Immortality
Institute, Institute for Accelerating Change, Artificial General Intelligence
Research Institute, and the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence,
as well as initiating dialogue with those outside of the transhumanist
and Singularity communities.
Accelerating Future seeks to engage the computer science, cognitive
science, and futurist communities, presenting the argument that deeply
planning for near-future technological changes is vital, starting today.
Our thinking is based entirely on science and the materialist doctrine,
most prominently including input from the evolutionary psychology, evolutionary
biology, robotics, nanoscience, neuroscience, decision theory, computer
science, and cognitive psychology communities. We're familiar with the
history of these disciplines, and how they are relevant to analyzing
the effects of near-term technological changes.
