   It’s imitating a Gundam actually

   It’s a parody of the typical Gundam mecha. Gun, shield with cross, blue chestplate and red-painted feet. Gundam has a large fanbase in Japan (and all over the world), and Asimo is something made from Japan too, hence crossing the two robots over is no surprise.
   That’s something to satisfy the fans lol.

   Yes, it’s Gundam. Time to give the franchise a rest, though, and move on to new ideas. It’s been beaten into the ground already.
