Very much so. I know that the branding of TED will increase the popularity of the sort of event, but I don’t like this effort to kill BIL, not one bit, particularly since BIL launched a recent option for hosting your own BIL.
TEDx has some strict requirements which BIL does not, including that events must play footage from an official TED event, that the event cannot be more than one day long, and that events with +100 people must be organized by a former TED attendee.
I’ve been organizing a BIL for the valley/bay area in Santa Cruz, to occur in July. I’m a bit worried now about TEDxSF in late May, but not so worried that I’ll be canceling the event. I don’t think this is the end of BIL.
