Musician AI

Here's an interesting application of AI -- to create "elevator music" that is original and interesting instead of boring and repetitive.

  1. “to reduce costs”
Really? That’s the last thing the human race needs. To make one of the last remaining things that is truly human obsolete, creativity. I am not afraid of technology, I use it everyday and it is invaluable to modern society. It saves lives, saves time, energy etc. But what does make me afraid is a new culture of apathy and indifference to where art and entertainment come from.
Technology is like perpetual motion, in that it does not slow down and gives itself momentum. I speculate that its only a matter of time until AI music becomes perfected, and in turn more accepted. A large part of what makes music enjoyable to humans is that it connects with them on an emotional level. Even a musical melody can evoke a certain feeling that people share with each other. Which in many cases compliments the accompanying lyrics. Lyrics that can tell a story, recount human experience, or even express love.
As you may have already guessed i’m a musician, and as a musician i cant help but think of the tens of thousands of musicians who have worked very hard for hundreds of years. We all stand proudly on each others shoulders with admiration for the ones who have come before us. I think it would be very insulting to them if they knew that their passion and hard work was condensed into a computer program of algorithms.
