Here’s an online petition for you to sign if you support LGBT civil rights. It will help get us thinking about the issue.
Here is what to say to people who claim that the Bible opposes homosexuality. I especially like this part where it lists other fun rules about sex from the Bible.
How is this relevant to the subject matter of this site? First of all, there are no restrictions on subject matter here. Secondly, if people won’t support civil rights for LGBT people, what makes you think they will support our right to modify our bodies with technology? LGBT civil rights are completely worth advocating on their own terms, but a world that accepts a diversity of sexual orientations will also be more open-minded about other forms of diversity, and that is not only helpful, but moral.
You missed the main issue of relevance to your site.
Currently sex change operations are painful, expensive, and the result is very different from the result of being born with different chromosomes. It won’t always be like this.
Imagine if changing genders, between male, female, androgeny, hermaphroditism, and anything else that they think of could be done in a day visit to a hospital with no scars and “full functionality” (in all possible meanings of the term).
A side effect of the changes that I think most readers of this site desire (in terms of improved mental and physical capacity) would be the ability to make such changes to gender. This would really change society and would be strongly opposed.
So while most readers of this site probably have no direct vested interest in this issue, I think it’s going to suck us all in whether we like it or not.
A longer term issue is the fact that when a GAI is developed it would probably be a bad thing for it to see examples of humans promoting intolerance of diversity. The idea of a GAI self-improving, becoming powerful, and deciding that mistreating people who are different (IE all humans) is not appealing.
