See this CNN article on dog intelligence. Apparently some breeds are approximately as smart as 2 1/2 year olds.

I’ve seen a 2.5yo child talked through the CentOS installation process. When I see someone talk a dog through such a task then I might believe such a claim.
Being able to recognise letters on screen as matching the letters on a keyboard and being able to understand abstract concepts such as the relationship between moving a mouse and the movement of the pointer are part of being smart.
Do you know of any research into such things?
