Shane Legg on Funding Safe AI
Post-doc AI researcher Shane Legg has some interesting thoughts on the funding of safe AI and what role SIAI might play in the Singularity. He suspects that SIAI will ultimately play a secondary role, acting as an organization influencing other AGI groups in the direction of friendly goal systems, rather than a central role, as the actual implementer of friendly AI. Maybe he is right. If SIAI fails in its mission to create the first truly intelligent AI, all I can hope is that we would get others to think with greater detail and caution about human-friendly goal systems.
