If you spend much time rolling around in the snow while wearing traditional clothing (warm wooly clothes and a waterproof outer layer) then you get too hot.
I don’t think that better insulation is needed, what is needed is better ways of reducing the insulating capabilities on demand. If there was a material that would lose it’s thermal insulation properties at a temperature of 37C then it would be useful for this.
Aerogel is awesome though.

I first learned about aerogel from a book that belongs to my 7 year old son. It’s called Cool Stuff and How it Works. I am reminded of aerogel every winter when I have to wrap all of our drafy windows in plastic. Just a thin layer of this stuff and we could spend winter indoors dressed for the beach!
