Job Opportunities at Alcor
Alcor has some job openings, including CEO for $125,000 a year plus benefits. That's a lot of moola.
There's also openings for Technical Coordinator, Readiness Coordinator, paramedics, and emergency technicians.
Come on, people. Those frozen heads aren't going to beat themselves. Let's get to work.
(Apologies if anyone is offended by my little joke. Sometimes I think cryonicists are a little too serious and self-important. Full disclosure: I am Alcor member A-2458.)

I laughed. Out loud.

Unfortunately I think the bad publicity will increase the number of instances where hostile relatives try to interfere:

$125,000/year for a CEO position? That is pretty low for CEO. What kind of market opportunities are there? For instance, do they get a lot of returning customers? Customer satisfaction high?

“Customer satisfaction high?”
A successful revival at some point would take care of that.

Mark, sad story. :( “Changed her mind a couple days before death”, yeah right. “Removed the necklace”… yes, I sometimes remove my necklace when I’m taking a shower or I’m just inside and safe and don’t think it’s particularly likely my heart will suddenly stop beating.
Cryonics is so popular that once the customers arrive, they never leave. ;)

“Sometimes I think cryonicists are a little too serious and self-important.”
To be fair, there are both broad and personal reasons for this. Broad in the (perhaps cliched) sense of “150,000 die each day, and that is an atrocity.” Personal in the sense that once your loved one is cryopreserved, you have a more tangible emotional investment in cryonics. Until that first loved one is cryopreserved, there’s a bit of an abstract feel to cryonics.
That said, my website will be a tour through very dark “humor” ;)

Regarding “loved ones” in cryonics: I don’t recommend cryonics for single straight guys as a source of girlfriends. Men outnumber women by something like 4 to 1.
You’d think the single straight women in cryonics would find themselves in a buyer’s market (an ample supply of single straight men to give the women more choices and negotiating power); but I’ve heard otherwise from the relatively few women who have signed up on their own initiative. In fact, I’ve read that Kerry Howley will publish an article in the New York Times Sunday Magazine in a few weeks which features at least one female cryonicist who says that her cryonics arrangements have made it difficult to keep boyfriends.

I probably should have said “a fellow cryonicist you know personally” :)
Yeah, it’s unfortunate that we’re all spread out geographically, as that kind of hampers things. However, I don’t mind if I end up never having a girlfriend. I’d much rather stick to what is right than give in to convention/emotion/etc.
p.s. thanks for the heads-up on Howley :)

The cryonicists I’ve met who’ve gone into suspension so far include Jerry Leaf, Paul Genteman, FM-2030, David Zubkoff (Leonard’s brother) and Jackson Zinn. I knew David well, Jackson moderately, and the rest only slightly. I don’t recall any women in cryonics I’ve met who have entered cryostasis.

I too am surprised by how low the salary is. I know software engineers that make that and I’m not far away. I’ve been seriously considering joining Alcor. Trying to decide whether the low salary for the CEO should be cause for concern or not.

it is my first reply on this website and at first I would like to thank for the great quality information, which I found in this and all previous posts , it really helped me very much. I will definitely iclude this blog on my rss reader ;) Also, I would like to ask – don’t you mind if I will quate some information from your website because I am writing articles for the Hub pages, Ezine and other articles directories (this is my part time job)? It would really help me with some of mine articles. Of course, I will mention your website name or URL (not all articles directories allows URL’s , so I can’t 100% promise that you will get a direct backlink to your blog).
