Here’s the new quote I’m using on my Facebook:
“Disease, poverty, environmental destruction, unnecessary suffering of all kinds: these are things that a superintelligence equipped with advanced nanotechnology would be capable of eliminating.”

I think we could solve most of these issues today with the means we possess now. Maybe superintelligence greatest achievement will be to make us more human that we pretend to be.
Not the most widespread suffering: the suffering of wild animals.
The suffering of wild animals is a big deal, but isn’t astronomical waste a little bigger? Part of the difference, I guess, is that wild animals are suffering now while astronomical waste is an opportunity cost issue.
