“Transhumanism” — A Word That Exists for a Reason

Philip Jackson, Ben Goertzel, Humanity+, and others got a writeup at Boston.com.

Notice how the article casually mentions transhumanism and takes it for granted that transhumanism is not particularly scary or weird.

Folks, we need your self-identification if transhumanism is going to progress. The cowardice I see out there is astonishing. Smart, productive, de facto transhumanists that are just too damn stodgy to use the T-word to describe themselves.

I know who you are! You benefit from connections within transhumanism, you discuss all the topics, but you're afraid to use the word to describe yourself. You greatly overestimate the taboo factor.

Explicit transhumanists really are necessary to accelerate progress, just like explicit evangelical Christians are necessary to hold back progress.

Benefiting from a social group but refusing to publicly associate with that group is a form of social defection.

Transhumanists over 40, you're not too old to take a minor social risk by publicly calling yourself a transhumanist. Really.
