Shane Legg at The Singularity Summit 2010 — Universal measures of intelligence from Singularity Institute on Vimeo.
This was my favorite talk of the Summit.
Shakey camera… :( Next Summit I’ll have to watch the live video feed the entire time to make sure it stays steady.
Great talk! Thanks for doing all the work to post these.
Check out Shane’s latest blog post:

Unfortunately this doesn’t shed any light on what intelligence IS, only on what the results of intelligence are and how to measure those results.
Nice, but still a minor point, I have had disagreements with Shane before (on his blog) and he doesn’t seem to grok the distinction above: defining the results of intelligence doesn’t define the process of intelligence, and it’s not AIXI, obviously, since it is not actually computable (Solomonoff induction), whereas rats and even worms do show some level of intelligence.
This may sound absurd, but has anyone proven that universal intelligence actually exists? I’m worried that what humans have is actually a collection of ‘parlor tricks’, and that’s all that intelligence will ever amount to… can anyone clear this up for me?
