David Friedman
Professor, Santa Clara University
David Friedman earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago. Currently a professor of law at Santa Clara University, he was a college professor of economics for many years. A libertarian writer and economist who became a leading figure in the anarcho-capitalist community with the publication of his book The Machinery of Freedom. Friedman's Law states the principle that anything done by government costs at least twice as much as a privately provided equivalent, the US Post Office being a specially well-known case. Friedman's Law is hotly debated, empirical research is still inconclusive. A chapter called "Police, Courts, and Laws---on the Market" sketches what a society without government might look like.
