James Van Ehr

Founder, Zyvex Corporation

James Von Ehr is the Founder of Zyvex Corporation. He is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zyvex Instruments, Zyvex Labs, and Zyvex Asia. He personally contributed $3.5 million to establish the University of Texas at Dallas NanoTech Institute and has endowed the James Von Ehr Distinguished Chair of Science and Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas. He founded the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative in December of 2000.

James Van Ehr was awarded the Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Pioneering in June of 2003. That year he testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation for Bill S.189, The 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act. He was then invited to the Oval Office to be present when President Bush signed the Bill into law on December 3, 2003. He an invited member of the Nanotechnology Technical Advisory Group (NTAG) to the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

In November 2004, he received the Ernest Randall Economic Development Leadership Award from the Richardson (Texas) Chamber of Commerce. He created the James Von Ehr Scholars Program at Michigan State University in 2006, which provides four-year scholarships to sixteen undergraduates.
He has an M.S. in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Michigan State University.
