Ray Kurzweil

Ray Kurzweil is an inventor, entrepreneur, author, and futurist. Called "the restless genius" by the Wall Street Journal and "the ultimate thinking machine" by Forbes, he is the recipient of the 1999 National Medal of Technology and the 2001 Lemelson-MIT Prize. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2002. He is the author of The Age of Intelligent Machines, The Age of Spiritual Machines, Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever, and The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology.
Ray Kurzweil was one of the principle organizers being the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence conference held at Stanford University in 2006. At the first Singularity Summit he gave a keynote speech exploring some possible ramifications of Moore's Law continuing into the 21st century. In July of this year he presented the keynote lecture of the Transvision 2007 conference entitled "The Coming Merger of Human and Machine." He outlined the foreseeable implications of accelerating technological progress. At the reception following the event taking place at the Field Museum he was presented the HG Wells Award for Outstanding Transhumanist Contributions.
More recently, he presented both at the 2007 Singularity Summit and the Third SENS conference on the same day by appearing virtually at both events. Providing updates on how accelerating technological progress is enabling scientists to uncover how the brain performs intelligence. He is currently involved in the creation of a film called The Singularity is Near: A True Story About the Future, which will be released in 2008. He will also be presenting a keynote lecture at the 2008 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco called "The Next Twenty Years of Gaming".
