I always understood Crocker's rules as having little to do about tact, it's about valuing information over social cues. The formatting being set for maximal informational flow, rather than certain kinds of considerations that may lead to censure. Considering tact and insult should go into communication with a person that has declared crocker's rules, but only as factors that may affect good communication of data.
